The special Tell Tales that we sent out Sep. 6 (concerning mostly the Jim Pique Memorial Regatta) counts as No. 4. Thus, this one should be No. 5. There are a variety of important items, but not in any particular order.

• The Sarasota Sailing Squadron's website for the Labor Day Regatta showed Chloe Dietrich winning the Green Fleet on the results page. This presented a problem since she had received a trophy for second place. Jabbo checked with the powers that be and unfortunately, the website was in error. We thought there might have been an error in the scoring, similar to what we have experienced in Englewood the past couple of years, and hoped the website was correct.

• A couple of people have noticed that there is no Crow's Nest Regatta, as we used to know it, on the Crow's Nest website. That's because there will not be any big boat racing this year. Instead, Steve Harner is sponsoring a Treasure Hunt on Saturday, Oct. 13. However, he still plans to sponsor racing for VYBA and the VWSS (Venice Women's Sailing Squadron also known as the Bitter Ends). VYBA will hold its part of the regatta all day Saturday, Oct. 6 -- similar to the Jim Pique Memorial Day schedule. We will go to the Crow's Nest Restaurant for lunch and awards at noon on Oct. 13.

• The annual Hula Cup competition, for females only, will be at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron on Sunday, Oct. 7. Distaff members of our fleet are invited to participate in Optis and Sunfish. Sarasota's Luffin' Lassies are the host organization.

• We are looking for a parent who can check around the Fort Myers Beach area for available rooms for the River Romp (Beach Romp) Regatta on Oct. 20-21. Connie Muscato reports that she has been having a difficult time finding something. Seems there is a convention going on down there at the same time and space is limited. Hopefully this will be the last time out at the beach and next year, we should be back on the Caloosahatchee River near downtown Fort Myers.

• Some people also have called about Saturday schedules. Again, Green Fleet sails 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Red White and Blue sails from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a break for lunch. And Portsmouth sails from 1 to 5 p.m.

• Our Ernest Green Fleet left their blades out last Saturday and some of the Red, White and Blue skippers had the wrong blades. All Opti sailors are strongly urged to make sure their blades are placed in their boat before they leave. All blades have been marked with their boats' number. There should be NO changing blades unless something breaks. Then check with a coach for a replacement. Do not simply the first one you see. We have extras designated while yours is being fixed.

• We have also inventoried all blade bags and find that No. 17 is missing. If anyone knows where it is, please let us know.

• By the way, when you go to a regatta, you can stow your wind indicator in the blade bag. Just don't forget where it is and try to fold the bag with the indicator still in there. That's tough on indicators and they are not inexpensive.

• We are going to start enforcing the wearing of shoes policy. When you wear your PFD, you wear your shoes. One young man keeps forgetting to bring his life jacket. Although we have plenty of extras, everyone should wear their own.

• Tyler Thorpe has been designated as captain for the Red White and Blue Fleet. His primary task is to provide a liaison between the coaching staff and the sailors in such areas as communications. Captains of other fleets will be named soon.

• For those going to the Dunedin Cup Regatta on Sep. 29, I will register everyone on Friday evening. All sailors should be at the Dunedin Boat Club no later than 9 a.m. because we have to unload boats, rig and be off the beach by 10 a.m. It is a small area and a tight schedule. You should allow at least an hour and a half to drive from Veniice to Dunedin.

• In the series races, there are some points policies that everyone needs to know. If you do not start or finish a race, you are awarded points based on the number of boats in the race plus one. If you have an unexecused absence, you will receive number of boats plus three. If you have an excused absence, that will mean the number of boats plus two.
