· MISCELLANEOUS

1. It has come to our attention, unfortunately, that some parents are making comments about other parents’ youngsters. We are a small grass-roots program and word spreads quickly. If you have a complaint about someone else’s child, take it up with his or her parent(s) or a coach. Please do not make derogatory statements about any of our sailors publicly.

2. Cara Patete has returned from a trip to Tanzania (that’s on Africa’s east coast for those of you who are geographically challenged). She left June 15 and visited New York City on the way back. Cara also has registered for the U.S. Junior Women’s singlehanded championship which will be held at Miami’s Coral Reef Yacht Club on July 18-23. The top young women sailors in the nation will be racing Laser Radials, an Olympic class boat, for the Nancy Leiter Claggett Memorial Trophy. Better known as the Leiter Cup, there were 48 skippers last year and Molly McKinney, a former VYBA skipper from Sarasota, won it on Long Island Sound.

3. Those who need to contact Glenn Sosa can e-mail him at VYBATreasurer@gmail.com.

4. Andrew Sosa has installed the Gulf Coast Journal’s show on VYBA on our website. It’s great.

5. We had to cancel the first session’s afternoon classes. The two sessions at the end of the summer are in danger. Please help us acquire some more prospective sailors. For you year-round sailors, you can earn a free sweatshirt. In addition, Blake Waldron needs two more sailors for his second 420 class that he is slated to start teaching next Monday.
