· SCHEDULE COMMENTS

1. This coming weekend will be the Summer Sailstice, which is a global weekend that celebrates sailing. This international event was started in 2001 to unite sailing communities all over the world on the weekend closest to the summer solstice. So, this Saturday, our series races will recognize this connection along with Fathers’ Day which will be Sunday.

2. No one else signed up for the Hibiscus Cup Regatta in Punta Gorda on June 19. Thus, VYBA cannot go as an association. Individuals are welcome to go on their own.

3. The second parent orientation is scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. Those sailors who did not attend our sailing counselor training June 5, and still want to help, must attend session this Saturday at 9:30, or immediately following the parent orientation. Opti sailing starts at 10.

· MISCELLANEOUS

1. Our lost and found continues to grow. The box is filled with gloves, shirts, shorts, towels, socks, flip flops and other items, which will go to Goodwill soon if not redeemed.

2. Thanks to the families of Nick Hernandez and Jake Hinshaw who contributed a significant amount of cloth materials that will help people clean up wildlife caught in the oil spill.

3. We did not have enough people to hold the Laser class, so we had to scrub it. And we need one more for the week-long Optimist training that Blake Waldron will teach from June 28 to July 2. Those signed up so far are Brianna and Scott Trecartin, Courtney Purcell, John Light and Alexis Jenkins. This is a great opportunity to improve your skills before regatta season. And yes, it is for Red, White and Blue skippers since we don’t have a Green Fleet now.

4. There is another 420 session slated for July 5-9 and we need five more to hold it.

5. Venice Yacht Club held crab races as part of its Island Paradise Party last Saturday and $350 was donated to VYBA. Our sailors who helped in the event were Cara Patete, Tyler Thorpe, Truett, Bogan and Garver Whitehead along with former VYBA skipper Alicia Muscato. The club plans to hold the races again on July 4 if parents and sailors would like to attend.
