1. As each sailor showed up last Saturday, we
assigned them a horse that was entered in the 136th run for roses at Louisville, Ky. Nick
Etz wound up with Super Saver, the winner, and Courtney Purcell had Ice Box,
which placed second. Scott Trecartin took third with Paddy O’Prado. That trio
will not be awarded roses, but can expect valuable prizes this Saturday.
2. The VYC generously donated $1,032 from its
Kentucky Derby party activities to the VYBA.
· MISCELLANEOUS
1. Sailors cannot come in early without a coach’s
permission. Also, they will no longer be allowed to come in early, unless they
are injured, if a parent has not cleared it with a coach.
2. We need some summer sailors. So far, there are
only 30 registrations. Don’t forget our offer of a sweat shirt if you can bring
in a prospective sailor (not a relative or second-timer).
3. Mucho gracias (in honor of Cinco de Mayo) to
many people who have given of their time:
a. Alex Soodak and Courtney Purcell who have been
collecting community service hours by doing odds and ends, such as rigging
sails and cleaning up, around the Pram Shed.
b. Steve Purcell who fixed one of our megaphones.
He has also offered computer help.
c. Kevin Jenkins, Alexis’ father, for repairing
Whaler trailer No. 1. It had a broken axel.
d. Celeste Patete, who does the work of nine folks,
for bringing our first aid kits up to date.
