·        SCHEDULE COMMENTS:

1.      This Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m., Optimist sailors will clean up their boats and will change sails for the summer program. All parents are invited to participate in the annual Parents’ Race(s) which will start at 1 p.m. Our sailors will be the coaches and race committee.

2.      A Notice of Race for the Hibiscus Cup has been posted along with the sign-up sheet. So far, only four have signed up and we need 11. It’s close and it’s inexpensive.

·        REGATTA RESULTS: Some people have complained that we should list only the top finishers instead of listing all the results. But “Tell Tales” is our main information conduit (although a few folks don’t read it) and it is the VYBA’s official news of record for reference purposes. Therefore:

1.      Ernest Green Fleet: 1, Bogan Whitehead, 36-6=30; 2, Nick Hernandez, 48-11=37; 3, Louisa Nordstrom, 74-15=59; 4, Courtney Purcell, 84-15=69; 5, John Light, 100-15=85; 6, Justin Frow, 114-17=97; 7, Truett Whitehead, 121-18=103; 8, Brianna Trecartin, 127-15=112; 9, Sara Frajerman, 130-17=113; 10, Nick Etz, 131-16=115; 11, Garver Whitehead, 157-18=139.

2.      RWB: 1, Stephan VerHulst, 35-16=19; 2, Lucas Galarza, 29-5=24; 3, Garrett Lawlor, 46-7=39; 4, Stefan Johnson, 76-10=66; 5, Scott Trecartin, 101-14=87; 6, Alex Soodak, 130-17=113.

3.      Portsmouth: 1, Cara Patete, 18-4=14; 2, Paul Kreider, 24-4=20; 3, Chloe Dietrich, 30-6=24; 4, Andrew Sosa, 36-6; 5, Carla Johnson, 48-6=42; 6, Evan Langer, 60-7=53.

·        REGATTA COMMENTS:

1.      The Optimists were run as one fleet, but scored separately. Thus, Bogan Whitehead and Nick Hernandez actually finished third and fourth overall. This may be a preview of coming attractions since Coach John Thomas officially decreed all Green Fleeters were Red, White and Blue sailors and all Optimists will compete as one fleet in the Summer series.

2.      Each fleet had a throw-out and normally this only reduces the scores, but in the RWB Fleet, it changed the winner. Lucas led when the overall totals were computed, but Stephan had a much bigger throw-out (his disastrous first race) and captured the crown.

3.      Thanks go to Diana VerHulst and Celeste Patete for handling the flags and scoring on the race committee. Appreciation also goes to all safety boats including coaches John Thomas and Blake Waldron plus John Whitehead, Per Nordstrom, Willie Galarza and Tom Lawlor.

·        MISCELLANEOUS:

1.      Garrett Lawlor’s fame continues. Not only was he on “Southwinds” magazine’s cover a couple of years ago, but that picture was part of an ad in the May issue.

2.      We need a few volunteers to ride in our Optimists for the Venice Yacht Club’s Blessing of the Fleet, which will be Sunday, beginning at 3 p.m. You should be here by 2 o’clock to rig.
