·        SCHEDULE: (* means key regatta; no sailing in Venice)

·        SCHEDULE COMMENTS:

1.      The skippers’ meeting for our regatta Saturday is 9 a.m. Our sailors should be there by 8 a.m., and must check the registration table for your lunch ticket, etc. Those in charge of registration don’t have time to track you down like they had to do last year.

2.      Only three sailors signed up for the Mount Dora Regatta. Therefore, we are not going.

3.      The next big regatta will be the School’s Out Regatta at Tampa’s Davis Island Yacht Club.

4.      Coach John Thomas will be in New Jersey on Apr. 10. Alex Whalen will take his place.

·        REGATTA RESULTS: Our Green Fleet did very well at the annual Sailfest Regatta in Sarasota. Nick Hernandez placed second and Bogan Whitehead finished fourth. Others in the top half of the 40-boat fleet were Truett Whitehead, 11th; Courtney Purcell, 13th; Alexis Jenkins, 19th and John Light, 20th. All Green Fleeters received participation medallions. Sailors were on the water six hours Saturday but a thunderstorm curtailed Sunday’s sailing. Many thanks go to John Whitehead for hauling the 12-boat trailer and to Kevin Jenkins for taking Whaler 2.

·        POST SCRIPT: At St. Petersburg’s Valentines Regatta, Stephan VerHulst, Bogan Whitehead and Lucas Galarza each received framed picture copy of the Steve Pardee Perpetual Memorial Trophy. Stephan’s name will be first on a new side of the trophy’s base.

·        MISCELLANEOUS:

1.      We made an error last week. It was John Light’s grandmother, not grandfather, who died.

2.      After Bogan Whitehead acquired a new boat of his own, no less than three people asked for his formerly assigned boat. We reassigned it to Courtney Purcell because her new spars don’t fit her former boat. She also has her own set of blades. We have had to make some changes in boats and sails because of needed repairs, but otherwise, there will be no changing boats and sails. And when the repairs are made, sailors will go back to their originally assigned boats. We may reassign boats in May, but probably it will be August.

3.      Sailors who want to be sailing counselors during the summer need to let us know soonest.

4.      Cara Patete and Amanda Watson teamed up to take third in the SAISA (high school) Spring Intersectional Regatta on Lake Norman, which is north of Charlotte, N.C., last weekend. They had 12 races in 420’s against 17 other teams from all over the East Coast.

5.      Sara Frajerman, a Green Fleet skipper, placed second in a Tai Kwon Do tournament recently and she going to another tourney in Missouri soon. Sara is ranked in the top 10 in the nation and if she continues to do well in the last two events, she will have the opportunity to compete for the title of world champion. Obviously, she is a very versatile young lady.

6.      If you take your club sail (or blades or anything) home with you, please let a coach know.
