·        REGATTA RESULTS: Congratulations to all our young ladies for doing so well at the Allison Jolly Regatta, for females only, in St. Petersburg last weekend. Unfortunately, Allison wasn’t there.

1.      Cara Patete won the six-boat Laser 4.7 class by winning four out of the six races. Sami Tornese took third and Carla Johnson finished fourth.

2.      Louisa Nordstrom won three of the seven races to place second in the 23-boat Green Fleet. Alexis Jenkins came in eighth, Sara Frajerman was 15th and Courtney Purcell was 17th.

3.      Samantha Wood was 21st out of 22 boats in the Red, White and Blue Fleet that had five races. The last girl didn’t sail.

4.      Thanks go to Steve Purcell for stepping up and pulling the 12-boat trailer.

·        MISCELLANEOUS

1.      We repeated four “miscellaneous” items in the Feb. 24 and Mar. 3 issues. Sorry about that, but to repeat a request in the Jan. 30 edition, we still need a trailer maintenance volunteer.

2.      Debbie Wood, that would be Samantha’s mother, received the Green Angel award for volunteering in Girl Scouts and other organizations on Jan. 30. It was given by the Neighborhood Council for Venice, Osprey, North and Nokomis. Congratulations, Debbie!`

3.      Brianna Trecartin, VYBA’s youngest skipper, lost a tooth while sailing recently. It was the second time this has happened. No word yet on what she found under her pillow.

4.      More missing teeth. Garver Whitehead allowed as how he lost a tooth during a regatta.

5.      Many thanks to the folks at the Venice Yacht Club. People who attended a Super Bowl party there donated $150 to VYBA. And there was another trivia night contribution on Feb. 4.

6.      Some Portsmouth Division sailors may or may not know this, but there is a Portsmouth Yardstick for rating small boats. Unfortunately Darlen Hobock who compiled regatta scores from around the nation and published the handicapping index, died in Oklahoma in January.

7.      Lost and found items now include two (2) pair of sunglasses and pair of sweat pants, size XS.

8.      The Green Fleet has new race sails and thanks to Allen Soodak and son, Alex, they have numbers, but most of them still need to be rigged. They should be for regattas only.
