·        REGATTA RESULTS

1.      We could call it the St. Valentine’s Weekend Massacre. What a performance by VYBA sailors at the annual Valentine’s Regatta in St. Petersburg last weekend! That’s never been done!

2.      Stephan VerHulst took three bullets and a second place in four races to capture first place in the Silver Fleet. Bogan Whitehead had a third and three fourths to come in second, and Lucas Galarza scored a first, second and a fifth to go along with an 11 to grab third spot. Louisa Nordstorm finished fourth with 25 points. Nick Hernandez actually tied with Louisa in points but was fifth. Alexis Jenkins was 18th, Truett Whitehead was 33rd, Samantha Wood was 38th and Scott Trecartin was 50th out of 94 registered sailors.

3.      Officials broke down the fleet into age divisions and thus, Stephan also won the Red Fleet (13-15). Bogan placed second and Lucas took third. Alexis finished sixth. Louisa garnered the Blue Fleet (11-12) competition while Nick came in second.

4.      There were special awards for girls and Louisa captured that trophy and Alexis was seventh. Samantha Wood was 15th out of the 39 females signed up.

5.      This regatta is one of the biggest and most popular in the nation. Sailors not only came from Florida but from the rest of the United States and some foreign countries.

6.      Capt. John Thomas, VYBA president and coach of the Venice “Sea Urchins”, promised the group there would be a celebration. It will be at the Pram Shed on Saturday at 1 p.m.
