HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Evan Dietrich, a Green Fleet skipper, will become 11 next Wednesday.

SCHEDULE:

Oct. 3 – Fall Series race 7 (high school Great Oaks in St. Petersburg)

Oct. 10 – Crow’s Nest Regatta (all day) and boat load

Oct. 17-18 – River Romp Regatta (Junior Olympics event), Edison Sailing Center, Fort Myers

Oct. 24 – Fall Series race 8 and high school regatta (SP 2) at Lake Eustis

Oct. 31 – Fall Series race 9 (Halloween race)

Nov. 7 – Fall Series race 10 (last series race for the autumn)

SCHEDULE COMMENTS: A notice of race (NOR) for the Crow’s Nest Regatta will appear in the next week’s “Tell Tales”. However, for planning purposes, it is an all-day regatta (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) for VYBA sailors only. There is no registration and no fee, but sailors should bring their own lunch. Either Crow’s Nest Restaurant owner Steve Harner or his dockmaster, Jack Mehl, will present trophies at approximately 5 p.m. Also there will be a boat load for the River Romp Regatta. Only 10 Optimists and two Laser skippers have signed up for the River Romp Regatta and our sign-up deadline is this Saturday. Since this regatta is a Junior Olympics event, junior membership ($25) in US Sailing is required. If you plan to go, please sign up so we can arrange trailer transportation. In addition we need volunteers to pull the various trailers.

SERIES COMMENTS

A situation occurred last Saturday that I sincerely hope will not happen again. In spite of little or no wind, we were able to have a Green Fleet series race. Then we tried to combine both Optimist fleets for a series race (first for RWB, second for Green). We discovered that some sailors cut a corner and did not go around the windward mark as directed. Therefore, we are throwing out that second race, which means only the Green Fleet had a series race.
