HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Jacob Hinshaw, a Green Fleet
skipper, will turn 11 Friday and Tyler Thorpe, a Laser Radial sailor in our
Portsmouth Division, will be 16 next Tuesday.

Oct. 24 – Fall Series race 8 and high school regatta (SP 2) at
Oct. 31 – Fall Series race 9 (Halloween race)

26. All nine were present but Sami’s boat had a breakdown.
ANNUAL DINNER: In addition to the Summer Series trophies, Venice Yacht Club
Commodore John Jepsen handed out our “big five”
annual awards. Carla Johnson won the Mark and Caren
Rom Trophy as the top sailor in the Ernest Green Fleet. Cara Patete captured
the Smith Barney Trophy as the best skipper in the RWB Fleet. And Michelle
Thomas took the Morgan Stanley Trophy as the low-point finisher in our Portsmouth
Division. The Louise Swift Memorial Award went to Samantha Wood and the Sidney
C. Schroeder Sportsmanship award was presented to Garrett Lawlor. The five
awards stay in the VYC, but each winner received an individual plaque.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
1.
For those of you scoring at home, the final tally on Sarasota’s
Labor Day Regatta was 253 boats, including 78 RWB, 62 Green, 54 Radials, 15
Sunfish, 14 420’s and 12 4.7’s.
2.
The yacht club’s benefit for the VYBA on Labor Day weekend was a
rousing success for all reports. The evening of fun with the Cryn’ Shames was a sellout on Sep. 5. Our own Sari Reegler
won the mini-Olympic pram races on Sep. 7. At the annual dinner VYC Vice Commodore Shaun Graser
presented a check to VYBA for $5,270.66. Many thanks.
