SARASOTA REGATTA:

1.      All but two Green Fleeters and two RWB sailors are going to the Labor Day Regatta.

2.      For those who have not been to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, go to Mote Marine and follow Ken Thompson Parkway eastward to the end. There is a big circle and traffic is supposed to flow counterclockwise. Go three-quarters of the way around and the SSS entrance will be on your right. However, parking will be very limited and we suggest you park outside wherever you can find a spot in the infield or a parking area, and walk in.

3.      You should arrive no later than 10 a.m. First, go to the registration table which will be under the pavilion which is on the north side of the squadron’s main building. Go to the table that applies to your fleet. (Optimists to the Optimist table, etc.) Check to make sure you are registered correctly (right fleet, right sail number) and obtain the sailing instructions.

4.      Go to our trailer, which should be on the beach just outside the back gate, unload your boat and rig it. Blades are on the right side, noodles are on the left and sails are in back.

5.      A skippers meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Optimists will be at the Educational Building.

6.      The first warning signal for all fleets is 12:30 p.m. Please do not ask when it ends. Sailboat regattas, like baseball games, are timeless. They depend on the weather (and wind) and go until the race committee decides to stop. However, Saturday’s races should be done by 5.

7.      US Sailing membership is NOT necessary, in spite of the on-line registration form and a few rumors. However, a junior membership ($25) will be required for the Edison Sailing Center’s River Romp Regatta, which is a Junior Olympics event, which is scheduled for Oct. 17-18.
