TELL TALES (Aug. 26, 2009)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Unfortunately, the two birthdays that we mentioned last week – Matt Blow of Green Fleet and Mariah Miller of RWB – have both dropped out of VYBA along with Aubrey Khachetoorian of our Portsmouth Division who is transferring to Sarasota. We wish them well.

SCHEDULE:

Aug. 29 – Fall Series race 3 and boat load

Sep. 5-6 – Labor Day Regatta at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron, Sarasota

Sep. 12 – Fall Series race 4

Sep. 19 – Fall Series race 5 and annual dinner (Cressy High School Regatta in Clearwater)

Sep. 26 – Fall Series race 6 and high school regatta (SP 1) in Tampa.

SCHEDULE COMMENTS: We should have two boat trailers here Saturday for those who are going to Sarasota’s Labor Day Regatta. Green Fleet boats will go on the 12-boat trailer and three Lasers will go on the 9-boat trailer. The 9-boat trailer will make two trips on Friday afternoon, one with Lasers and one with the RWB boats which will be loaded by the Laser folks.

PULLERS NEEDED: Jabbo has a newer vehicle, which does not have a trailer hitch, so he is out of the trailer pulling business (unless someone will let him use his or her vehicle). Meanwhile, we need volunteers to pull both boat trailers and all three Whaler trailers to Sarasota.

SERIES COMMENT: One Green Fleeter was scored DNS (did not start) in Saturday’s first race because he forgot to wear his life jacket. That’s the policy. Don’t leave home without your PFD.

LEFT OUT: One of the reasons we number blades is so we can determine who left theirs out. In the future people who leave their blades out one week will put up everyone’s the next week.

OPEN INVITATION: The Cryn’ Shames will be performing at the Venice Yacht Club on Saturday, Sep. 5 as part of the benefit party for the VYBA. Dinner is slated for 6 p.m. and the show is set for 8 o’clock. Call 488-7708 for reservations and please mention the VYBA.

HIGH SCHOOLERS: The Venice High School sailing team will practice at the VYBA on Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. each week. The jury is still out on the Pine View team, but it may be here too.

TV STARS: The Gulf Coast Journal television show is scheduled to have a segment on VYBA on Channel 3 (PBS) on Thursday, Aug. 27, beginning at 8 p.m., thanks to Ellen Lawlor who set it up.

BOARD MEETING: The next VYBA board meeting will be Tuesday, Sep. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. Items on the agenda include appointment of new board members and election of officers.
