·         WOMAN SAILOR: The Florida Women’s Sailing Association (FWSA) sponsored a special program to determine the young woman sailor of the year in the Tampa Bay area. The Venice Women’s Sailing Squadron, also known as the Bitter Ends, nominated VYBA’s Michelle Thomas. However, Shannon Heausler of Tampa’s Davis Island Yacht Club was the award recipient.  Shannon is an instructor, sails for College of Charleston and recently took third in the Women’s National Sunfish Championship in Mississippi.  Congratulations go to both Michelle and Shannon.

·         MATCH RACING: Sailors between 15 and 20 who are interested in taking their sport to the next level should check on this item. They can register for the Advanced Youth Match Racing Camp at the US Sailing Center of Sheboygan, Wis., July 8-12. Dave Perry will conduct an intense four-day workshop that focuses on sail trim, boat handling and techniques. Call Jabbo if interested.

·         BOAT DRAWING: Venice Youth Boating has received a Hobie 14 as a donation. Capt. John Thomas will bring the catamaran over to the west side of the Pram Shed soon to promote a drawing. Chances are being sold at $5 each and a drawing will be held at the annual meeting.

·         SAILING COUNSELORS: As a reminder, sessions run from 9 to 12 and 1 to 4, except for advance which will run from 1 to 5. You should be here at least 15 minutes early to help the instructors. Also plan to stay until you have completed all your chores. No leaving early without permission.

·         NO EATING: From now on, sailing counselors and other sailors shall not eat in the back part of the Pram Shed. Some people are leaving food and trash which makes a mess and attracts rats. If you bring your lunch, plan on either eating in the front section with the instructors or outside.

·         SIGNING UP: If you want to be a sailing counselor for a specific day, you must sign up yourself. Don’t ask someone else, especially instructors, to sign up for you. Instructors have other duties.

·         HANGING OUT: Venice Youth Boating is not hosting a child care service and therefore, don’t show up just to hang out. If you are going to help, great. If you are going to sail, super. Otherwise, we have a work list of projects that need attention and you may be pressed into service.  Our instructors have their hands full with sessions and can’t watch extra youngsters.

·         SAILING FIREWORKS: We will have regular sailing on Saturday, the Fourth of July.
