·         SCHEDULE:

May 2 – Spring Series race 5 for Ernest Green Fleet only

May 9 – Spring Series race 6

May 16 – David Swett Memorial Regatta and possible boat load

May 23 – Spring Series race 7 or School’s Out Regatta in Tampa on May 23-24

·         THIS SATURDAY: Capt. John Thomas has made arrangements for the Portsmouth and RWB sailors to go on a big boat for the Venice Sailing Squadron’s regular monthly regatta in the Gulf of Mexico. The boat is John Lynch’s “Summertime”. Participating sailors should be at the Pram Shed no later than 0900 and this will be the sailing session for the day for our more experienced sailors. Otherwise there will be no sailing except for Coach Robert Berg’s Green Fleet, which will meet from 0800 to noon, as usual. Jabbo will be in Sarasota for an instructor course again.

·         TAMPA REGATTA: Only four Optimist skippers have signed up for the School’s Out Regatta, which will be at Tampa’s Davis Island Yacht Club. We need nine and the deadline is May 9.

·         SHIP OVER: Those Opti sailors who plan to remain with our year-round program need to let us know by Friday or Jabbo will start calling. Unsure sailors will not be assigned the blue boats.

·         SPECIAL SESSION: Four have expressed interest in the 420 program June 1-12, but only one of those has paid. We need all four paid by Friday or we will not be able to have the session.

·         SUMMER SESSIONS: Our members should be inviting their friends and neighbors to our summer sessions.  However, we must have all of the forms and a check (in full) before we can register them. Otherwise, all we can do is pencil them in and a paid person could push them out.

Shaun Gallagher jumped over Mariah Miller into fifth spot, and Alex Soodak passed both Mariah and Blake Erquiaga. In the RWB Fleet, Cara Patete has eased past Evan Langer to take third. And in the Portsmouth Division, Michelle Thomas has regained first place, sailing by Sami Tornese and Andrew Sosa. Paul Kreider has overtaken Andrew to gain the third spot. Not many races remain, so be there or be square.

·         PUBLICITY PEOPLE: There’s a story about Alicia Muscato in today’s North Port Sun. Several of our sailors are mentioned in today’s Gondolier story about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Cup in Punta Gorda. The Englewood Sun had a great story with pictures about our regatta in Englewood. It ran on the front page of the Sunday edition, which was a day after the event.
