·         SAILFEST RESULTS: Here are the official results for the Sarasota event last weekend.

1.       Carla Johnson finished fourth out of 45 registered in Green Fleet. She scored 19 points, and won a tie-breaker over Brooke Conrad of the Manatee River Pram Fleet. Scott Trecartin came in 21 with 64 points.  Lucas Galarza and Mariah Miller did not compete. Stephan VerHulst, who is a Red, White and Blue sailor for VYBA, signed up for Green Fleet, but did not race. Zack Jordan, a former VYBA skipper who sails for SYSP, garnered a seventh place.

2.       In the RWB division, Garrett Lawlor was 31st out 52nd registered sailors with 142 points. He came in 15th out of 25 Blue Fleeters. Evan Langer placed 40th overall and 19th out of 24 Red Fleet skippers with 168 points. Teammate Stefan Johnson took 41st overall and 20th in Blue Fleet with 169 points. Alicia Muscato did not compete.

3.       Michelle Thomas accumulated 23 points to take 10th place out of 14 Laser 4.7 sailors. Christi Frost, a former VYBA skipper, was 5th with 10 points, losing a tie-breaker to Cassidy Sanders.

4.       Andrew Sosa was 20th out of 27 Laser Radial competitors with 47 points. Molly McKinney, another former VYBA member sailing for Sarasota, finished fourth with eight points.

5.       Ben Mohney, still another former Venice skipper who sails for Sarasota now, took third in the 11-boat 420 class with seven points. Crewing for him was Tyler Thorpe, a VYBA sailor.

·         OUR REGATTA: To date only four of our sailors have registered officially for our Englewood event. That’s only one-quarter of the people who signed up.  We base such decisions as number of T-shirts to order on the number of registrations we have – not the people who say they will.

·         MISCELLANEOUS

1.       Alicia Muscato will be racing in the annual Mount Dora Regatta this coming weekend.

2.       Chloe Dietrich has signed up to be a sailing counselor this coming summer.

3.       Aubrey Khachetoorian is the proud owner of a blue Laser and will move up this summer.

4.       Only two of three Laser skippers packed dollies for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Cup Regatta in Punta Gorda on Mar. 28.  However, no one would admit to forgetting to put a dolly aboard the 9-boat trailer. For future reference, when you load your Laser, load a dolly.

5.       All skippers, regardless of class, should remember to thank the race committee after the last race. It is not an easy job and members do not receive any pay for running your races.

6.       The Sarasota Youth Sailing Program will hold a practice from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The group has invited anyone to join the fun in Optimists, Lasers and 420’s. Stu Gilfillen, SYSP director, will provide the 420’s but not the other boats or coaching vessels. Let him know.
