TELL TALES (Feb. 25, 2009)

·         SCHEDULE: 

Feb. 28 – Practice session (28-1 – High school regatta at Jensen Beach)

Mar. 7 -- Spring Series race 1 (7-8 – Allison Jolly Regatta in St. Petersburg, females only)

Mar. 14 – Spring Series race 2, trophy presentation and boat load

Mar. 21 – Leukemia and Lymphoma Cup Regatta, Isles Yacht Club, Punta Gorda

Mar. 28-29 – Sailfest. Sarasota Sailing Squadron, Sarasota

Apr. 4 – Spring Series race 3

·         SIGN UPS

1.       Chloe Dietrich signed up for the Allison Jolly Regatta, giving us the required number to send the boat trailer and Capt. John Thomas as coach. Those going include Sami Tornese, Michelle Thomas, Alicia Muscato, Ashlyn Weed, Cara Patete, Samantha Wood and Carla Johnson. They will receive regatta points while the rest of VYBA has Spring Series race 1.

2.       Only 10 of our 31 sailors have signed up for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Cup in Punta Gorda on Mar. 21. There will be no sailing here that date. So sign up before Mar. 7.

3.       Another designated key regatta is next on the schedule for Mar. 28-29. A sign-up sheet for Sarasota’s Sailfest is posted now. Again, there will be no sailing here that Saturday.

·         SERIES STANDINGS: Here are the final Winter Series standings, including a throw outs (worst scores) and regatta points (when a skipper goes to a regatta away from here such as the Team Racing event in Tampa in January). Capt. Thomas will present the trophies on Mar. 14.

1.       Green Fleet  (had nine races):1, Samantha Wood, 18.8; 2, Lucas Galarza, 19; 3, Carla Johnson, 20; 4, Scott Trecartin, 34; 5, Lizzie Karras, 42; 6, Alex Soodak, 46; 7, Toussaint Thomas, 50; 8, Mariah Miller, 53; 9, Shaun Gallagher, 53; 10, T.C. Liming, 56; 11, Blake Erquiaga, 58; 12, Brad Arnold, 68. Shaun moved ahead of T.C. by coming last Saturday.

2.       RWB Fleet: 1, Cara Patete, 9; 2, Alicia Muscato, 20; 3, Garrett Lawlor, 29.7; 4, Evan Langer, 38.7; 5, Stefan Johnson, 42; 6, Stephan VerHulst, 46; 7, Ashlyn Weed, 53; 8, Aubrey Khachetoorian, 57. Since Stefan was sick and missed Saturday, Evan moved past him.

3.       Portsmouth Division (has had eight races):  1, Michelle Thomas, 7; 2, Bryan White, 20.6; 3, Paul Kreider, 21; 4, Sami Tornese, 26; 5, Chloe Dietrich, 30; 6,  Andrew Sosa, 35; 7, Tyler Thorpe, 45; 8 (tie) Katie Paolillo and Sarah Vogelsong, 54; 10, Evan Dacey, 55.

·         MISCELLANEOUS

1.       Several Lost and Found items moved from our box in the Pram Shed to Goodwill last week.

2.       Mrs. Betty Anne Haering, who donated her Sunfish to VYBA, has a dolly for sale. It is like new and the price is negotiable. See the card on our bulletin board if you are interested.

3.       VYBA thanks go to Andrew Sosa who has redesigned the website and posted our regatta and the revised schedule on it. He also posts the weekly “Tell Tales” by each Friday.

4.       We have flyers (promoting our summer learn to sail program) available for distribution to your friends and neighbors. Alicia Muscato did a fantastic job with the design.

5.       Bryan White finished 41st out of 54 in the Radial division’s Silver Fleet at the Laser Midwinters (East) at Clearwater. He accumulated 342 points and was tied for 40th, but lost the tie-breaker. There were 10 races in the Gulf of Mexico.
