Nov. 21 – Winter Series race 2, boat load; high school regatta (SP 3) at Hollywood; (21- 22)            

Carlisle Classic Regatta, Clearwater Community Sailing Center.

Nov. 28-29 – Thanksgiving Regatta, Davis Island Yacht Club, Tampa

Dec. 5 – Winter Series, race 3 and Christmas Boat Parade

Dec. 12 – Jim Pique Memorial Regatta (all day)

Dec. 19 – Winter Series, race 4

Dec. 26 – Optional sailing (1000 to 1500)

THANKSGIVING REGATTA: The boat load for the Tampa event will be Saturday. We have 11 Optis scheduled to go on the 12-boat trailer and six Lasers signed up for the Davis Island Yacht Club regatta and only three spots available on the 9-boat trailer. The first three to sign up were Paul Kreider, Cara Patete and Carla Johnson. The others will have to make other arrangements. We still need volunteers to pull the two boat trailers as well as three Whaler trailers. If you are planning to go, but will not be here Saturday, please make sure that some of your teammates load your boat, blades and sail. And make sure you use the correctly numbered bags.

REGATTA INFORMATION: Since the IOD skippers’ meeting is slated for 0930, VYBA sailors should be on site no later than 0830. When you register or check in, please make certain your club affiliation is VYBA – not VYC, Venice or NULL or the Venice Sailing Squadron.

SERIES COMMENTS: Stephan VerHulst earned regatta points by finishing 39th out of 92 Optis in the Naples Cup Regatta last weekend. Former member Alicia Muscato was 51st. Sami Tornese gained regatta points when she and former member Amanda Watson sailed a 420 to eighth place in the Silver Fleet of a Great Oaks high school regatta in New Orleans, also last weekend.

MISCELLANEOUS

1.      The 2009-2010 version of VYBA policies were sent yesterday. RWB and Portsmouth sailors should note the need for updated Emergency Medical Information forms soonest.

2.      Opti sailors who sign up to stay on Saturday afternoons should plan on staying, or else.

3.      When sailing in the gulf, skippers are urged to stay out of the beach swimming areas, which are appropriate marked “No Entry” and away from any rolling breakers lest you capsize.

4.      Too many sailors are leaving gear and information behind and not putting up their gear. In the future, your penalty will be a couple of turns around a shell pit collecting weeds.

5.      Some gear went to live in the Island Goodwill Store on Nov. 12. Next load will be Dec. 10.

6.      Fall Series trophies will be presented at the Jim Pique Memorial Regatta on Dec. 12.
